A independent audit has confirmed that the Alpha Newspaper Group , of which the Newry Democrat is a member is the largest weekly newspaper group in Northern Ireland . It sells 72,281 papers each week whereas the largest daily newspaper – the Belfast Telegraph – is now only selling 47,112 of each issue and the vast majority of these are within Greater Belfast. Indeed it is now estimated that the Belfast Telegraph is now only selling 1,000 papers each day in Newry City and district. Without doubt the Democrat has a larger readership and provides better results from advertisers compared to any daily newspaper circulating in Newry City. The figures speak for themselves.
