Annual CCG awards

The Confederation of Community Groups (CCG) has announced that its Annual Shinning Light Community Volunteering Awards  will take place on Thursday June 5 at Bellini’s Newry. The annual volunteering awards have grownm over the years and are now one of the most prestigious events in the Newry and Mourne area. Raymond Jackson Chief Executive of the CCG said: “We are delighted to announce that our main sponsor this year is Newry Credit Union which like CCG was established by voluntary effort and retains a strong volunteering ethos. The aim of the Community volunteering awards is to honour the life and work of Patricia Graham by recognizing the significant contribution made by others to meet the needs of the local community through volunteering. Patricia Graham had a personal commitment and involvement with helping those in need both in her role as volunteer and as an employee of the CCG working in the support of volunteers. Nomination forms for the Community Volunteering Awards were issued on Friday and must be completed and returned to the adjudication panel by Friday May 9. The independent panel is made up of Seanin Graham, Irish News, Principal of St Joseph’s Boy’s High School, Newry, Hugh Mallon and Frances McCarthy of the Newry Credit Union and Colette Ruddy. CCG are inviting nominations from different organisations affiliated with the group for seven different Shining Light Award categories  – age 16-24, 25-49, 50 plus, Older People’s Services, Youth Work, Charity Work and Community Work. This is a great way of paying tribute to volunteers or projects run by community organisations. We look forward to another successful event,” added Mr Jackson.
