CHAMBER CEO MEETS US PRESIDENT, JOE BIDEN

Our US Born CEO, Tony McKeown was delighted to meet US President, Joe Biden at Ulster University on Wednesday 12th April and represent our 350+ members.

As a US citizen having been born in San Francisco in 1975 and a graduate of Ulster University in 1999, this was a special day for Tony.

We are immensely proud to represent so many incredible local businesses from across Newry City, South Armagh, South Down and the Mournes and we were delighted to attend this historic visit.

The special event marked 25 years since the signing of the Good Friday Agreement. Positive, inspirational and forward-looking messages from President Biden and the US Special Envoy for NI, Joe Kennedy.

CROSS-BORDER WOMEN’S LEADERSHIP PROGRAMME

Newry & Dundalk Chambers’ are delighted to launch a  new Cross-Border Women’s Leadership Collaboration Programme, ‘Empower Together’ designed to share leadership skills in a safe and trusted environment.

Working together in small cross-company, cross-sector, cross-functional groups of senior leaders, North & South, participants will explore best practices, share insights, compare experiences, gather new perspectives and try out ideas with an exceptional group of peers. 

The programme will operate virtually and in-person and is aimed at senior female leaders, business owners with a minimum of 10+ years’ experience. Spaces are limited to 20 participants on this new programme.

CHAMBER PRESENTS GIFT OF YEW TREES TO US OFFICIALS

The Chamber was delighted to present ‘Yew Trees’ as a gift to the US Officials, Joe Kennedy III and Paul Narain at a business breakfast alongside other business groups on Friday 14th April to mark the historic visit to our shores by US President, Joe Biden.

Chamber CEO, Tony McKeown took the opportunity to thank the US administration for their interest in Northern Ireland and presented a gift of Yew Trees.

Tony explained: “Newry is one of the most historic places in Ireland. The Irish name is, Iúr Cinn Trá, which translates as ‘yew tree at the head of the strand’.”

“I gave one yew tree to Paul Narain to plant at his residence and asked Joe Kennedy to plant the other tree when he visits Newry in the near future.”

“This is an exciting time for our region with the President reaffirming his commitment to Ireland, North and South.”

“As an organisation who works with our members to help them grow their businesses, encourage exports and bring investment to our area, this is great news.”

HAVE YOUR SAY ON THE WINDSOR FRAMEWORK

The House of Lords Sub-Committee on the Protocol on Ireland/Northern Ireland is inviting organisations to submit their views on the Windsor Framework, as part of its current inquiry.

The submission deadline is 4pm on Tuesday 2nd May.

PROPOSED NEW ‘CIVIC HUB’ DEVELOPMENT IN NEWRY

Newry, Mourne and Down District Council (NMDDC) have submitted their planning application for a proposed new ‘Civic Hub’ development at Abbey Way, Newry.

You can view the planning application HERE.

To ensure you best understand the development under consideration, you should view the plans and before commenting on the application should you wish to do so.

Representations raising valid planning matters must be submitted to the NMDDC Planning Department in writing as soon as possible to allow the case officer to consider any relevant comments before a decision is made.
