Austin Trumans Ireland part of the Murray Metals Group based in Newry has been bought of by Barrett Steel of Bradford. Hence forth the group will trade as Barrett Steel Ireland. It is understood the deal will protect about 18 jobs in the city. The new owners promise to improve the level of customer service and access to a wider rang of products and services than previously offered. Austin Truman started life as the Eiffel Foundry in 1948 and became part of the Murray Metals Group in 1997. The Newry operations is a purpose built factory providing state of the art warehousing capacity servicing a range of industries across the whole of Ireland including construction, agriculture, general and civil engineering and wind power. The stockholding facility based at Greenbank includes long products, hollow sections, merchant bar and plate. Additional services include shot-blasting, priming and cutting to length.
