A revamp of the Women’s Aid refuge in Newry which was organized by Newry Junior Chamber is being supported by Crown Paints. Next week the Chamber will have just one weekend in a race against the clock to transform the current Women’s Aid centre which provides refuge to women and children suffering from emotional, mental, physical or sexual abuse within their home. Over the past few months members and friends of the Chamber have been raising funds for the appeal by taking parts in events such as the Newry Marathon and a bag pack in Sainsbury’s. The group has secured donations from local businesses and Now Crown Paints has agreed to provide all the paint needed for the project free of charge. A donation box is available at the Quays Shopping Centre until August 28 for anyone wishing to make a donation which can be in the form of new bed clothes, kitchen utensils, cups and plates and vouchers. NJC is also looking for painters to help complete the task over the weekend of August 31 top September 2. Anyone who would like to make a donation or contribute in any way should contact Stephen O’Hare on 028 3026 1272 or Paddy Magee on 07896 609656
