The NI Executive this evening announced they will confirm on 20th May whether indoor hospitality will reopen on 24th May. It is welcome that the NI Executive remain focused on the reopening on 24th May, but its disappointing that we will have to wait until 20th May for final confirmation.
Only 4 days to plan for restocking a businesses and putting in place staff rotas will be challenging for many hospitality businesses. After a long period of closure, the business community expected a definitive date rather than more uncertainty.
The reopening of the hospitality sector is important for the retail sector. Until hospitality is fully reopened, footfall, spend and dwell time will be down which will have an impact on the local economy.
One welcome aspect of tonight’s announcement is the increase in the number of people and households that can sit at a table. From 24th May, six people from six households can sit at the one table. which will help many local businesses.
Finally, don’t forget to join our three Facebook Groups, which have been set up by the Chamber to support local businesses.
