CONSULTATION ON ALL ISLAND STRATEGIC RAIL REVIEW

Newry Chamber of Commerce & Tradehas welcomed the announcement of a public consultation on the All Island Strategic Rail Review. We encourage our members to take part and give their submission to the review.

The public consultation was announced this week by Infrastructure Minister, Nichola Mallon MLA and Irish Minister for Transport, Eamon Ryan TD.

The consultation has now opened and seeks to gain insights from the public and all organisations who will have important inputs to make on the best way to shape and develop the rail network across Ireland.

As we know improving connectivity is a key economic driver and rail links are important to both businesses and employees in the Greater Newry Area. Our strategic location on the Eastern Corridor and rail link between Belfast and Dublin, stopping in Newry, is a key asset.

SPEND LOCAL DEADLINE EXTENDED UNTIL 19TH DEC 2021

Economy Minister Gordon Lyons MLA today announced that the High Street Scheme will be extended by five days to 19th December 2021.

The Minister also urged anyone with any balance left on their £100 Spend Local Cards to use it now.

There were 1.4 million successful applications to the scheme. Cards have been delivered to 99% of applicants and 10,000 cards are out for delivery.

The delay in dispatching some cards is due to a number of reasons including: applicants submitting evidence late, errors in applications, late submissions and some applications identified as duplicates.

The Department has contacted all verified applicants who should have received a card but have not activated it as yet. It is urging all applicants who have not received a card to check their email accounts today and respond before 12 noon tomorrow.
