Chamber gears up for crucial year

The next 12 months will have a significant long term bearing on the Greater Newry Area the re-elected president of Newry Chamber of Commerce and Trade said ion his acceptance speech at the group’s AGM on Thursday night. Cathal Austin also said that it is increasingly important for local businesses to have a strong pro-active Chamber fighting for their interests and those of the Newry area. “It is an honour and a privilege to be re-elected as president of such a dynamic, pro-active and highly respected strategic lobbying and networking organization,” said Mr Austin. “The next 12 months will have a significant long-term bearing on the Greater Newry Area. Newry Chamber will do all that it can to help local businesses get through these challenging times. In this difficult trading environment it has become increasingly important for local businesses to have a strong pro-active Chamber fighting  for their interests and those of the Newry area.”The Quays boss said the Chamber will continue to support its members and provide value added services to all: “Chamber officials lead by its Chief Executive will continue to work in partnership with other organizations and provide members with services and resources which will help their businesses grow and flourish.” The election of the Office Bearers and Executive Committee was presided over by Alan Clelland with Deborah Loughran elected First Vice President, Declan McChesney Second Vice President, Peter Conway Honorary Secretary and Aidan Malone Honorary Treasurer.
