COVID-19 UPDATE: Monday 29th June 2020 (Issue No.38)

As our Hospitality Sector looks forward to reopening again on Friday 3rd July 2020, I have provided an update below on the NI Executive’s comprehensive timetable of indicative dates for reopening.

If you haven’t already registered for tomorrow’s Re:imaging Business & Leadership event, there is still time to register. This is proving to be a very popular event and you will find the registration details below.

Next week, we are running the fourth in our popular series of Employment Webinars. The theme is “Incorporating Brexit Preparation Into COVID-19 Recovery Plans”. Registration details are below.

I have also included info on two of the NMDDC Business Support Programmes. Applications for the “Financial Management for Non-Accountants Programme” and the “Business Reboot Programme” both close on Wednesday 1st July 2020.

I have also included information on the SRC’s Work Experience Initiative for Level 3 Business Students. The College would like to hear from businesses that could accommodate an SRC Work Experience Student.

NI EXECUTIVE TIMETABLE OF INDICATIVE RECOVERY DATES

Indicative dates for further relaxations to the COVID-19 regulations were announced by the Northern Ireland Executive on Thursday 25th June 2020.

The comprehensive timetable of indicative dates is intended to give notice that will help to facilitate preparations for safe restart and reopening.

Each proposed easement will remain under review until it can be ratified by the NI Executive ahead of the indicative date, based on the emerging situation.

Two Business Support Programmes by Newry, Mourne and Down District Council closes for applications on Wednesday 1st July 2020.

Financial Management for Non-Accountants Programme:

This FREE Programme will provide business owners with the skills needed to better understand their financial performance and you will also receive access to a series of group workshops and bespoke 1-2-1 mentoring from July to September 2020.

Business Reboot Programme:

This FREE Programme challenges Owners/Managers to embrace innovative ideas and to adapt their business model to reflect the new realities of life and you will also receive access to a series of group workshops and bespoke 1-2-1 mentoring.

Eligible businesses must be:

  • Based in Newry, Mourne and Down District Council area; and
  • Employ less than 50 people.

SRC WORK EXPERIENCE INITIATIVE FOR BUSINESS STUDENTS

Southern Regional College would like to take this opportunity to tell you about their new Student Work Experience Initiative commencing in September 2020.

A Student is required to complete at least 40 hours work placement over the duration of a week, month, semester or year as part of their Level 3 Extended Diploma in Business, which is equivalent to 3 A Levels.   

If an employer needs a students to be more flexible, the hours can be completed in an “ad-hoc/as and when required” fashion.

The Students are based in Newry, Armagh and Portadown. 

The course has 4 main strands including Management, Finance, Marketing and HR.  Students will be studying various Finance Units and will be using Excel in classes.

As part of their Marketing and Project Based Learning (PBL) they will have used various tools for producing promotional documents. They will also have experience of Office 365 and OneDrive and may be able to support you in various functional areas:

  • Administration/IT
  • Digital Marketing
  • HR/Training
  • Finance
  • Shadowing
  • Research
