The Cow Parade now looks set to come to Newry after a council committee recommendation was over turned. The March 7 meeting of the council’s economic development committee had narrowly voted 7-5 that the council does not participate in the event which comes to Northern Ireland this year. However at last Tuesday’s district development committee meeting (Mar 20) councilors overturned this decision by 15-9 with one abstention. Securing tow of the of the fiberglass cows is expected to cost the council £7,500 but supporters of the initiative are confident that this will be considerably outweighed by the boost to tourism and local arts groups – something that has been the case in other towns and cities the bovine creations have visited.
