A cruise ship looks set to sail into Warrenpoint Harbour for the first time on July 19 2014 according to Council reports. The news is a welcome boost for the harbour following confirmation that an appeal against the decision to refuse funding for the Warrenpoint marina project was unsuccessful. The cruise visit is the work of local shipping agents Samuel Stewart & Co and already Newry and Mourne District Council has committed some £8K to ensure the trial visit is successful. A working group has also been established to welcome disembarking holidaymakers to the Carlingford Lough region.
