Irish Polish chamber gets district busy

The Honorary Polish Consul has played a key role in generating a unique Irish-Polish Chamber of Commerce (IPCC) for Newry and Mourne. The establishment of the new all Ireland organization comes in light of statistics between the two countries of over £1.5billion in exports to Poland. There are currently more than 600 businesses from the island of Ireland trading with Poland. The activation of the new advice chamber was launched by the mayors of Belfast and Cork with Hon Polish Consuls Jerome Mullen (based in Newry) and Patrick O’Sullivan and Michael Mulcahy based in the South. Mr Mullen expects the newly formed chamber to generate a positive business link both in Ireland and Poland. “We are making history, it is a history of a good kind and it is a history we can all be proud of,” said Mr Mullen. Polish Consul General Dr Tomasz Trafas has also put his support behind the IPCC which will begin its business ethos to already established companies as well as those just beginning. “This is a not for profit organization, membership based and designed to support and provide services to businesses both large and small who want to do business in Poland. We believe that the opportunity for investment in Ireland by Polish companies is very real and we also know that there is a considerable interest by Irish companies to invest in Poland. Equally the fostering of an entrepreneurial spirit amongst the approximate 250,000 Poles living on the island of Ireland is very real with many Poles keen on retraining so as to start their own businesses. Poland is the sixth largest member of the European Union with 38 million people and a very stable economy. It is to due to receive 60billion Euro plus in actual structural funds from the EU over the next five years, 30billion Euro matching funding from the Polish exchequer, so that Poland is a very important economy. Wer look forward to building a strong and successful organization in the months and years ahead and we invite all companies big or small out there to come an join our chamber and let us all help you in your efforts to expand into new and emerging markets such as Poland,” added the Hon Consul. The IPCC will have offices in Northern Ireland and southern Ireland and will operate a full service chamber of commerce office base. Full details are available.
