Local film director Cathy Brady, an MA student at the prestigious National Film and Television School, London; will shoot her graduate film WASTED back in her hometown of Newry.
Back in 2010, Cathy was a student at The National Film School,Dublinand filmed the short film SMALL CHANGE in Newry and local areas.
Cinematically, Newry has been underused and has stunning locations and we brought that to the screen. Small Change had professional actors as well as giving the opportunity to cast two local girls in pivitol roles in the film. The film was very successful at film festivals, culminating with ion for the 2011 Sundance Film Festival and winning the 2011 Irish Film and Television Award for Best Short Film, which was televised live and aired on RTE. WASTED will further showcase Newry and give two young locals actors the opportunity to work at a very high level.
Cathy and her team are approaching local businesses to support the film in whatever way they can. McVeigh Property Rentals and The Corn Dolly, have already come onboard.
Filming begins 26 July – 4 August. There will be press exposure both local and national and a screen credit (with company logo) when the film is released to film festivals inIreland and worldwide, television and dvd.
