Making equality work: Recruiting disabled people

The morning event will feature discussion on positive action and the practical steps, you as an employer, can take for employing people with disabilities. Participants will hear from Robin Christopherson, Head of Digital Inclusion and founding member of AbilityNet; globally acclaimed as a leading expert in accessible technology, he will share excellent first-hand examples of the choices in technology provision for the employer of today and tomorrow.
Speakers from Belfast City Council and Premier Inn will share with the audience examples of best practice and practical steps on promoting positive action employment programmes for people with disabilities. The morning will conclude with participation in a choice of one of four workshops designed to provide you with the opportunity to share and discuss, accessible on-line recruitment, mainstreaming recruitment and ion.
Workshop 1: Positive action – Work experience and placements
Wright Bus and Cookstown District Council will provide examples of positive action
Workshop 2: Supported employment for people with Autism
Project Able will share their workplace experiences
Workshop 3: Support for all sectors from all sectors
Dept for Employment & Learning and NI Union for Supported Employment will talk about the pre-employment and in-work support options for employers that are helping many people with disabilities to find and sustain a job.
Workshop 4: On-line recruitment
AbilityNet will cover technical issues around accessible on-line recruitment.
