Friends of Big Pat Ltd was formed in February 2022 by a group of fans, former teammates, proud citizens of Newry and personal friends of Big Pat Jennings, who made 119 international appearances for Northern Ireland.
Friends of Big Pat Ltd was incorporated on 11th March 2022 for the sole purpose of delivering the statue project in 2023.
Back in June 2022, Newry Mourne & Down District Council unanimously recommended the erection of Pat’s statue in Newry City. The Equality & Good Relations Reference Group approved the project in July 2022.
In January 2023, the formal planning application lodged for Kildare Street in Newry (Close to the Town Hall), a 7ft tall bronze sculpture on a 3ft Mourne Granite Plinth. Planning determination is due in September 2023.
World-famous sculptor, Andy Edwards was commissioned in January 2023 as well and there is a major fundraising event planned for May 2023.
