Land at Corry Square is to be turned into a city centre car park. The move comes as council which opens the land finally takes forward its decision approved in November 2012 to grant a five year lease of the land by way of license to Newry City Management Partnership. The Department for Social Development (DSD) has confirmed funding for the renovation of Corrry Square and councillors have been assured that parking fees will be kept to a minimum while revenue raised will be used towards costs for power hosing footpaths on Monaghan Street. A bid is currently with the DSD for funding towards this on a monthly basis during spring/summer with Newry City Centre Management Partnership taking responsibility for these works.
