New editor for Democrat

The Newry Democrat has appointed Patrick Ryan to the position of editor. The 33-year-old Newry man has been with the Democrat since 2000 when he joined the paper as a trainee journalist. Patrick worked his way up through the ranks and was deputy editor from 2008. He is looking forward to a new successful era for the newspaper. “It’s a great honour to become the editor of such a prestigious title,” he said. “The Democrat has a reputation for quality journalism and playing a key part of the life of the local community. I’m keen to build on that tradition and ensure that the paper goes from strength to strength. The paper has always offered a voice to those in the community who needed it, regardless of their background and that’s something that’s not going to change. The Democrat has won numerous awards over the years but we can’t rest on our laurels and my task is to ensure that the paper continues to evolve without losing the quality that we are synonymous with here. These are exciting times and I’m excited about the challenge ahead of me as editor of the Newry Democrat. I’m confident that with the team behind me the future of the Democrat is going to be every bit as bright and vibrant as the community we represent.”
