Mr Cathal Austin was re-elected President of Newry Chamber of Commerce and Trade at its Annual General Meeting on Thursday 18th October in Bellini’s.
The election of the Office Bearers and Executive Committee was presided over by Mr Alan Clelland. Mrs Deborah Loughran, Mr Declan McChesney, Mr Peter Conway and Mr Aidan Malone were re-elected for the following positions respectively, First Vice President, Second Vice President, Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer.
In his acceptance speech, President Cathal Austin stated, ‘it is an honour and privilege to be re-elected as President of such a dynamic, pro-active and highly respected strategic lobbying and networking organisation’.
‘The next 12 months will have a significant long term bearing on the Greater Newry Area. Newry Chamber will do all that it can to help local businesses to get through these challenging times’.
‘Newry Chamber seeks to represent the interests of its members and the wider community at a local, regional and national Government level. In this difficult trading environment, it has become increasingly important for local businesses to have a strong pro-active Chamber fighting for their interests and those of the Newry area. Newry Chamber has been the voice of the local business community since 1892. I, along with the newly elected Chamber Executive Committee will strive to continue this good work over the next 12 months and beyond’.
President Cathal Austin added, ‘Newry Chamber will continue to support its members and provide value added services to all. Chamber Officials led by the Chief Executive, will continue to work in partnership with other organisations to provide members with services and resources which will help their businesses to grow and flourish’.
President Cathal Austin thanked the Chamber Office Bearers, Executive members and office staff for their continued support and stated that he looked forward to another busy year at the helm of Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade.
