Following a unanimous vote of support at the April Executive Committee meeting, Newry Chamber of Commerce formed a Daisy Hill Sub Group Committee.
Chaired by Brian McConville, Owner of MJM, the group have since held a number of meetings with a view to identifying innovative and practical solutions to address the treat of closure of the Emergency Department at Daisy Hill Hospital.
The outcome of initial meetings of the subgroup has been the development of a 3-point plan to address short term and longer term measures (see attached).
Whilst there is still much work to progress, a number of significant steps have been taken including;
1. A number of Chamber members have generously contributed to a relocation package to attract a suitable ED Consultant. This includes the offer of a beautiful family house, a car and VIP loyalty gift club membership. A special thank-you to contributing members, MJM, Crash Services & Buttercrane Shopping Centre.
2. During a recent business trip to Poland, Chamber representatives met with a leading Polish Medical University to attract graduate training opportunities in Emergency medicine to Daisy Hill.
3. International marketing of recruitment Ads through the wider Chamber diaspora.
4. Wider stakeholder engagement and lobbying for longer term aspirations vis a vis hospital facilities.
5. Representatives of the sub-committee met with the newly formed Pathfinder Group to share views on how to best work together to secure the future of local emergency care services.
