Representatives from Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade met with Senior Management from the Southern Area Trust recently to discuss the future ofDaisyHillHospitaland wider health and social care issues following the launch of the Department of Health’s report on ‘Transforming Health & Social Care’.
Chamber President Cathal Austin who led the delegation stated, ‘Newry Chamber was pleased with the opportunity to meet with Mairead McAlinden, CEO, Southern Heath Trust and her colleagues in the Health Commission to re-emphasise the Chamber’s commitment to Daisy Hill Hospital and support for its status as an acute hospital servicing the health needs of the people of Newry, South Down, South Armagh, North Louth and Monaghan’.
‘We, in the Chamber were affirmed of Southern Trust’s long term commitment to the future of Daisy Hill Hospital; we have offered our assistance in doing whatever is required to support this great hospital, its management team and staff’.
‘The facts speak for themselves; Daisy Hill Hospital consistently excels across all Government measured performance targets and indices. Thrombolysis for emergency treatment of stroke better known as “the clot busting drug” in Daisy Hill is one of the highest in Northern Ireland and exceeds the NHS norm. Patient safety in the hospital, (which the trust measure monthly) is also exemplary Daisy Hill Hospital is an essential portion of bed capacity for the trust and the maternity ward for example delivers 2,200 babies annually, the 4th largest unit in Northern Ireland’.
