Newry’s first Festival of Water

Newry’s first ever ‘Festival of Water’ featuring a speculator line-up of activities takes place on Sunday September 1 at the Albert Basin in Newry. Kick-starting the activities will be the Newry City Triathlon ‘Sprint the Distance’ which will include a 750m swim, 20k cycle and 5k run. Also there will be a Try-a-Tri for U18s to gain experience of competing in triathlons (see www.newrytriathlon.com for further information and registration details). Following the triathlon there will be a buzz of activities with the Inland Waterways Association Bath Tub Race. This event is open to the entire community of the greater Newry and Mourne area so come along and participate in a truly entertaining day of water based activities in the basin. Whether you are a business organization, school/ college, voluntary group, community group, sports club, youth club, emergency services or statutory body, the Inland Waterways Association is looking everyone to get involved. Not to be missed is the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service ultimate fire fighter demonstration which will take place outside the Quays Shopping and Leisure Centre before the day concludes with the basin coming alive to the sounds of X-Factor star Matt Cardle, the Nooks and The Professionals.
