NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

It gives me great pleasure as your new Chief Executive Officer to bring you the latest update on what is happening in Newry Chamber.

We have been working hard to secure a financial package for those local businesses impacted by the recent flooding across the Greater Newry Area and we continue to lobby on your behalf to secure much needed infrastructure investment across our city and district to ensure flood mitigations are in place going forward and that the correct infrastructure is put in place to support our ambitious growth plans over the next decade.

I am delighted to be supporting our new Chamber President, Edwina Flynn who took up the post at the AGM on 30th November. I look forward to working with Edwina over the next two years and I have no doubt she will be an excellent President.

Finally, a special word of thanks to our outgoing President, Julie Gibbons for her leadership, dedication and professionalism throughout her term, we wish Julie every continued success for the future.

We welcome the announcement that £16.2m in funding has been unlocked for Newry City Park, one of our city’s most ambitious regeneration projects.

NMDDC’s Outline Business Case (OBC) for the park has now been approved by the Department for Communities and a Contract for Funding issued, opening access to £16.2m from the Executive’s City/Growth Deal Fund.

The Council is also underwriting £2.4m to deliver the 15-acre City Park as part of Phase One of the project.

A temporary community space at the Newry City Park site is also now officially open following a recent award of £220,000 from the Department for Communities to Newry, Mourne and Down District Council.
