Property owners urged to avail of grant

Newry and Mourne District Council held a seminar in partnership with local architectural representatives last week to inform property owners of a grant that may be available to them. The Urban Development Grant Seminar was targeted at owners of derelict, vacant, disused properties in Newry City Warrenpoint and Kilkeel. Funded by the Department of Social Development the scheme is aimed at promoting job creation inward investment and environmental improvement. The seminar was organized by BCMA Architects and AD Group Surveyors in partnership with the council to encourage property owners in the area to avail of the scheme. Bernard McAleenan of BCMA Architects revealed that there are currently no applications from anyone in the area and urged property owners who meet the necessary criteria to apply for the grant. Speaking at the event Mayor Charlie Casey said: ” Such grant aid schemes offer an opportunity to breathe new life into a derelict or vacant property and help regenerate our urban areas.
