Sports Minister tours district

Sporting group in Newry and south Armagh have been receiving funding advice from Culture Arts and Leisure Minister Carai Ni Chuilin. The DCAL Minister spoke to the groups during a number of visits across the district last week. As she toured the area with Sinn Fein MLAs Megan Fearon and Mickey Brady, Ms Ni Chuilin visited the Sticky Fingers Children’s Art Group as well as the Sacred Heart and Bosco boxing clubs followed by the Thomas Davis Corrinshego, Dromintee and Crossmaglen Rangers Gaelic Football Clubs. Newry and Armagh MLA Megan Fearon said the Minister had been able to offer helpful advice to a number of clubs. “I arranged for Carai to come into the area as I know the wonderful work which these groups were involved in their communities,” she said. “A number of the groups we met today have funding issues and Carai was receptive to their situations. In some cases she gave advice as to where the groups might be able to source funding and I hope that this information will be useful to the groups we met.” Her party and Assembly colleague Mickey Brady said Ms Ni Chuilin had a particular interest in boxing clubs. “The welcome we received at each group was wonderful and each group went to a great effort to display all the good work they are involved in,” he said. “Carai has identified funding for boxing clubs in particular and for this reason I was happy to bring her to two Newry clubs that are doing amazing work in very dilapidated premises.”
