Southern Regional College as part of its work with the Department of Social Development is delivering Training and Employment Opportunities Progrqaammes (TOPs) in the Newry Neighbourhood Renewal Areas. DSD funding supports economic training programmes which are targeted at those harder to reach adults and youth who for many reasons have become disengaged or have faced unemployment due to the economic recession. The programmes delivered by SRC have been successful with both adults and young people achieving qualifications in door security, horticulture, car maintenance and driving. A number of the programme participants are now in employment. Kieron Lennon from Orior Road is currently employed with Group 4 Security and Michelle McKibben from Violet Hill Avenue is employed with local security company Pro-Tec. Kieran commented on how delighted he was to be in fulltime employment and the amount of opportunities that door supervision licence has opened for him. Kieran and Michelle received their certificates from Mr Jerome Burns deputy director DSD. Mr Burns thanked the neighbourhood renewal partnership boards and SRC for their level of engagement in renewal programmes and wished Kieron and Michelle the very best for the future. Both Kieron and Michelle are progressing to another programme involving CCTV training. If you are interested in this or any other programme contact Lesley Hamilton from Southern Regional College on 028 3025 9717 or email Lesley on Hamiltonl@src.ac.uk
