Newry Chamber was delighted to a be a key partner in the delivery of this initiative alongside Southern Regional College and Newry, Mourne & Down District Council which took place on Thursday 22nd March in the West Building of the SRC Newry Campus.
The Big Apprenticeship Event has grown steadily year on year with higher level apprenticeships on offer for students completing their A Levels across areas such as accountancy, mechatronics, life sciences, chemical sciences and computing infrastructure and for students completing their GCSE’s, apprenticeships are available across the agriculture, construction, engineering, hospitality and service sector.
The event is crucial for local businesses to be made aware of the bright young talent in this region, for school leavers to be made aware of the exciting hands on opportunities available for them on their doorstep and for their parents to ‘think differently’ about their next steps. The new system of apprenticeships both at a higher and general level provides real jobs for young people who are interested in achieving degree level qualifications whilst working locally in a more cost effective manner. It is important to understand that university is not the only option for young people wishing to further themselves.
We would like thank all of our members who took a stand at the event including the mac-group, MJM Group, Norbrook Laboratories, Firmus Energy, Michael Goss & Co Ltd, PKF-FPM, PMK Accountancy Services, O’Hare & McGovern, Kelly Brothers, Felix O’Hare & Co Ltd, Daly Park & Co Ltd, Shelbourne Motors and ABP Food Group who have created a combined total of 52 apprenticeship opportunities within their respected organisations.
