The wonder of Hughes

Newry based company Hughes Insurance has coveted the company of the year award at 2011 UTV Business EYE awards. The broker which has 12 branches across the north won the award in face of stiff competition from SHS Group, ALMAC, Norbrook Laboratories and the Henderson Group. The independent broker which insures one in five motorists in the north, recently invested £2M in the infrastructure at Hughes Insurance – doubling the size of existing headquarters to cater for on going growth. Leslie Hughes, Chairman of Hughes Insurance said it was an honour to receive the award. “It is a testament of the spirit drive and attitude of everyone who works at Hughes Insurance,” he said. We focus on providing the best customer service whilst delivering whilst delivering the most competitive and comprehensive car insurance available in Northern Ireland – we need a good team to deliver this and this award illustrates that we haven’t lost sight of our main objective – after over 30 years in business. The company has recruited 38 new staff this year to date with a further 17 planned to support ongoing growth in the business. The firm is currently targeting a 25 per cent market share aiming to ensure 1 in 4 drivers in the north by 2012. Gareth Brady CEO of Hughes Insurance thanked the company’s staff for their hard work. “Over 240 people have contributed to this award including our Newry branch,” he said. “It is a real accolade to be recognised as Company of the year and further fuels our ambition to grow in this market and beyond. Expansion is on the agenda and we are proud to say we have the best staff in the sector – this award was won because of their hard work.”
