Department for Infrastructure officials recently gave a presentation on the progress of the Southern Relief Road (SRR) to the Greater Newry Vision Group.

The following five bullets points will provide all the information to date for the scheme. They are as follows:
- Overview – The key aspect within this area are the illustrative fly-throughs, one of which was shown at the presentation (see below).
- Background – Provides the detail of the scheme originated, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council input being key.
- Stage 1 Feasibility Report – The Executive Summary provides a good synopsis of the full options report which is also available.
- Stage 2 Community Consultation – Factors to be considered in choosing alternative routes or improvement schemes and to identify the environmental, engineering, economic and traffic advantages, disadvantages and constraints associated with those routes or schemes in 2017.
- Stage 3 Community Consultation – Details of the community consultation to clearly identify the advantages and disadvantages and the report in 2019.
The current status is that work is progressing on the Environmental Impact Assessment Report (EIAR) and the draft Statutory Orders. This work is expected to be completed towards the end of the year and will allow a further update on the scheme.
