Newry based company Norbrook Laboratories Ltd has won two awards at the prestigious UTV Business Eye Awards. Norbrook, the largest privately owned pharmaceutical company in the world topped the international trade category while the CEO Edward Haughey was presented with a life time achievement award in recognition of his contribution to the business life and economy in the north. Speaking at the awards ceremony Mr Haughey said: “It is a great privilege to accept two awards on behalf of Norbrook and to be honoured among my business peers foir whom I have the utmost respect. T witness the calibre of award nominees and winners fills me with great hope for the future of Northern Ireland.” Norbrooks success on the global stage was recognized by the International trade award following a year in which the company increased export sales by 13 per cent. “We are tremendously proud of our success in international markets. We have grown export sales by 60 per cent since 2005 and they now represent over 90 per cent of the group’s consolidated turnover,” said Mr Haughey. We will continue to focus on global business and explore new emerging markets.” A leading entrepreneur Mr Haughey has steered the company to become a world leader in the development of revolutionary veterinary and animal health medicines employing 1500 people in three sites in Newry and 3000 world. When accepting his lifetime achievement award he said: “I have accepted this award with great joy and hope and see it as a stimulant to bringing young entrepreneurs on in Northern Ireland. I will hold the award in trust for them who I believe are the future of our economy.”
