Newry Chamber and Newry BID hosted a constructive discussion this morning on the current consultation on Revenue Raising Measures & The Future of Business Rates between local businesses and Land & Property Services NI.
In September 2023, the Secretary of State for NI wrote to the Permanent Secretaries of the NI Civil Service departments directing that they launch public consultations on specific measures to support budget sustainability by raising additional revenue.
The Department of Finance launched a 14-week consultation on the revenue raising potential associated with the removal of 7 rating measures and are seeking views from those who may be directly affected and from the wider body of ratepayers.
The well attended event heard from Andrew McAvoy, Director of Rating Policy at Land & Property Services in NI who delivered a presentation on the range of measures currently being consulted upon which could see the removal of industrial derating as one of several revenue raising measures to help plug the gap in the NI budget.
A copy of the consultation paper on non-domestic rating measures can be found HERE. The consultation closes on Tuesday 13th February at 5pm and we would encourage you express your views on the list of current proposals which may affect your business by contributing to the consultation HERE.
