A funding application for the Warrenpoint Marina has successfully passed its first stage. Welcoming the news South Down MP Margaret Ritchie said that it confirms that the area has great tourism potential that must be harnessed. “In order to ensure that the project reaches delivery stage we must continue to promote it at every possible opportunity and to secure support from a wide range of interests,” the SDLP woman said. “I will continue to pursue the delivery of the planning approval of the Marina with the Minister of the Environment Alex Atwood. I have also met with Minister for Finance Sammy Wilson to secure his support for this project.” Mrs Ritchie said that the development of a Marina in Warrenpoint would be very beneficial to the town. “A Marina would not only regenerate the town centre but will bring with it during its construction and its lifetime many job opportunities for the local area,” she said. “Such a project will also provide a sustainable tourism product that will underpin the future of existing local businesses and provide future prospects of existing local businesses and provide future prospects for the services retail and business sectors in the local area.”
