‘She Leads’ Cross-Border Event Raises €8,900 for Women’s Refuges & Support Services

Major cross-border collaboration between six Chambers of Commerce brings together over 170 attendees in celebration of female leadership and resilience.

The groundbreaking ‘She Leads’ event, hosted at the Fairways Hotel Dundalk on 5th September 2025, has successfully raised over €8,900 to support women and children experiencing domestic abuse across the border region.

The funds will be split equally among four vital charity partners:

  • Women’s Aid Armagh & Down
  • Dundalk Women’s Aid
  • Drogheda Women’s and Children’s Refuge
  • Meath Women’s Refuge and Support Services

The collaborative initiative brought together the Presidents of six Chambers of Commerce – Lisburn, Newry, Warrenpoint, Burren and Rostrevor, Dundalk, Drogheda and County Meath – all of whom are female leaders themselves, demonstrating the power of cross-border partnership in support of women’s advancement.

Purpose & Impact

The funds raised will provide crucial resources for women and children seeking refuge and support services across the region, helping these organisations continue their life-saving work in communities on both sides of the border.

Event Highlights

Over 170 attendees gathered for an inspiring day of discussion, networking, and empowerment. The event, expertly hosted by Denise Watson, featured powerful contributions from leaders across business and politics.

A standout panel discussion saw businesswomen Sarah McAvoy, Caroline Duffy and Tina Calder share insights on building resilience in business and overcoming challenges.

The political panel brought together Liz Kimmins MLA, Minister for Infrastructure and Louth TD Paula Butterly, who addressed the stark disparity in how women in politics are treated compared to their male counterparts.

The large business panel featured Jackie Reid, Orlaith Blaney and Sandra Byrne, who demonstrated that breaking the glass ceiling isn’t about fitting in but rather learning to confidently make your mark while bringing others along with you.

Sponsor & Partner Recognition

The event was made possible through the generous support of sponsors and partners including Louth Local Enterprise Office, Newry, Mourne and Down District Council, Permanent TSB, SRC, Deli Lites and Excalibur Press.

Looking Ahead

Building on the overwhelming success of this inaugural event, the six Chambers of Commerce are announcing plans to make She Leads an annual fixture on the cross-border business calendar, continuing to champion female leadership while supporting vital causes in the community.
