From Newry to Nagoya in Japan, Ballymena to Bangkok in Thailand-Autoline Insurance Group’s reach into the telematics market is going global.
Following on from a visit in September 2013 of a delegation from Nomura Research Institute in Tokyo, Autoline in Newry was once again playing host to an international team today, this time from Bangkok Insurance, one of the largest insurance companies in Thailand. On each occasion the mission was to find out more about Autoline’s innovations in the telematics sector.
Telematics is the system used to monitor driving habits using Algorithm and GPS technology, this includes monitoring everything from braking patterns to anticipation of hazards against driver location. Autoline were the first in Europe to offer this technology through a downloadable phone app and for two years now it has allowed for the young driver market in Northern Ireland to access more affordable insurance and become safer drivers.
Autoline has been widely recognised in the insurance industry as a world leader in telematics. As well as speaking at numerous conferences on the subject across Europe, the team received further acknowledgement at the prestigious UK Broker Awards in London this month. Autoline were crowned winners for the Innovation Award, a testament to their progressive work in this sector.
Michael Blaney, Managing Director of Autoline Insurance Group said, “We are delighted to welcome the team from Bangkok Insurance to Newry. It is fantastic for us as a Northern Ireland company to be showing people from some of the most innovative regions in the world what we are capable of delivering locally in the telematics sector.
“It would be great if the team from Bangkok Insurance took back to Thailand what they learned here in Northern Ireland and started utilising similar systems.”
Caroline Currie, Sales Director at Autoline added, “The technology we have developed is revolutionising the young driver market, which for a number of years made driving extremely cost prohibitive to anyone 25 years and under. Using the app, instead of traditional rating factors allows for young people to be insured based on their individual driving skills.”
Dr. Apisit Anantanatarat, BKI Executive Vice President said, “We are extremely interested in the innovative way Autoline Insurance Group has been using telematics technology since our Company President Mr Panus Thiravanichkul, met the team at the Insurance Telematics Europe 2014 conference, in London. Our senior colleagues in IT, Personal Lines Insurance and Business Development wanted to find out more. Autoline have been very helpful and very welcoming. We look forward to continuing to build our relationship with Autoline and to finding out more about how Northern Ireland is embracing and utilising this technology.”
