A Newry barman has become a finalist of the Heineken Quality Awards becoming a Star Serve champion in the process at the prestigious ceremony. Glen McShane of Cobbles Bar battled it out with over 200 of Northern Ireland’s most talented bar staff at the MAC in Belfast for the awards which were hosted by Cool FM DJ Pete Snodden. After receiving a wild card that sent him through to the semi-finals Mr McShane finished 4th overall in a stiffly contested and fiercely competitive final. Now in its third year the awards have grown hugely in stature and are a celebration of quality in the Northern Irish market aqnd as the world’s leading premium lager brand Heineken leads the way in promoting through a commitment to quality training and excellent service. Leza Nulty Commercial Manager for Heineken NI commented: “The quality of bar staff we have in Northern Ireland is exceptional last night’s awards were hotly contested but congratulations to Anthony Hughes who was crowned our Heineken Star Serve Champion We created the Heineken Quality Awards to support bars who take pride in the ‘perfect pour’ and providing the best possible experience for our customers.” Local legends from Ulster Rugby also made a guest appearance – including Nick Williams, Rory Scholes and Andrew Trimble who were given a Star Serve masterclass and the opportunity to try and pull the best pint of Heineken.
