The Buy Local Campaign launched in Newry earlier this year has now officially been extended to Crossmaglen and south Armagh. The campaign which aims to encourage people to spend money in local businesses and stimulate the local economy was launched in the town on Friday June 14. The newly appointed Mayor of Newry and Mourne, Michael Ruane attended the event giving it his full backing. “This initiative is designed to encourage citizens to spend their money within the local community with the focus of the campaign being to inform people of the economic and cultural benefits of buying local and supporting local jobs,” he said. “Today is all about giving businesses the opportunity to come along and showcase the best of Crossmaglen and south Armagh produce and services. I would encourage all businesses to support the local Chamber of Commerce and fully endorse this campaign.” Michael McArdle, President of Crossmaglen and South Armagh Chamber of Commerce and Trade thanked those present and said he looked forward to working in partnership with them to roll out the campaign. The next stage of the campaign is to implement a marketing plan for the area, to develop a series of forthcoming promotions to show case our local offerings and range of businesses with in the local area,” he said.
