Chamber President Welcomes Kimmins Ministerial Appointment & Congratulates Murphy on Election to Seanad

President of Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade, Edwina Flynn has congratulated local MLA, Liz Kimmins on her appointment as Minister for Infrastructure and outgoing Economy Minister, Conor Murphy on his election to Seanad Éireann.

Edwina Flynn, President of Newry Chamber said:

“Firstly I want to take this opportunity to congratulate outgoing Economy Minister, Conor Murphy on his election to Seanad Éireann. During his year as Economy Minister, Conor worked closely with Newry Chamber and listened to our concerns.”

“His strategy of embracing regional balance has led to the setting up of Local Economic Partnerships, giving each of the North’s 11 Council Areas an opportunity to identify the economic priorities for their regions.”

“This has also led to Invest NI targeting 65% of its investment outside of the Greater Belfast Area, giving areas like Newry a real opportunity for economic growth. I have no doubt Conor will continue to speak for this area and the North in his new role as a Senator.”

“While we lost one local Minister, we gained another in Liz Kimmins MLA who has been given the crucial portfolio of Infrastructure.”

“As one of the Chamber’s core strategic pillars, it is vital that the new DFI Minister understands the significant infrastructure challenges we face in the Greater Newry Area and Minister Kimmins has that awareness and local knowledge and we look forward to working with her in the months and years ahead to ensure we deliver for this region.”

“I congratulate her on her appointment and wish her every success in her new role.”
