Great news from our member, Translink who have successfully introduced contactless payments on all Ulsterbus and Goldliner services across Northern Ireland, enabling faster boarding and an enhanced customer experience.
This rollout is another key milestone in Translink’s Future Ticketing System, which is transforming public transport. Passengers can now choose contactless payments on all bus and train journeys across the network, enhancing integration, convenience and payment flexibility.
The rollout to Ulsterbus services means passengers can simply pay for their ticket by tapping their contactless credit/debit card, smartphone or smart device on the reader and board the bus, removing the need to carry cash or pre-purchase a ticket prior to travel.
The on-board technology accepts contactless payments from enabled smart device wallets such as Apple Pay and Google Pay, Visa and Mastercard (including Maestro) contactless credit and debit cards, as well as pre-paid contactless cards. Please note, cash fares will continue to be accepted for those who wish to use them.
In addition to contactless, Translink offer a range of other digital ticket options via their mLink Mobile App, Smartcards, Online Ticketing and Ticket Vending Machines, while still accepting cash at ticket offices and on buses.
