Hannaway to lead new Council

Lissummon native Liam Hannaway, the current CEO of Banbridge District Council will be the new head of the Newry and Mourne and Down super -Council. Mr Hannaway’s appointment was confirmed on Monday following a lengthy recruitment process that saw over 40 candidates apply for the £100k+ position. Although no formal date has been confirmed for Mr Hanaway’s first day a Council statement said, “He is expected to take up position in the near future to lead the preparations in the run up to the establishment of the new super council.” Commenting on his appointment Mr Hannaway said, “I am delighted to be appointed as the first Chief Executive of the new Newry, Mourne and Down Council my own council area. I relish the challenge of establishing this new organization with its wide range of functions and maximizing the economic potential of this important district on the Island of Ireland.” Mr Hannaway previously held several positions within the Northern Ireland Housing Executive. Recently he was Chairman of SOLACE (the Society of Local Authority Chief Executives) and is also a member of the Chartered Institute of Directors. Welcoming the appointment Mayor Michael Ruane said that Mr Hannaway’s, “Knowledge, skills ability and experience will be of great benefit to the new district.”
