Multimillion pound health developments for Newry City will begin to bear fruit in 2015 with business plans at an advanced stage. The Department of Health has responded to the Newry Reporter after questions arose over timelines for his major investment s in the Southern Trust. The allocation of tenders for the proposed £40m – to £60m health hub within the city 30mph limited zone is underway. The Newry Reporter understands that five competing construction companies have now whittled down to three. A spokesperson for the Department of Health has said it will take over a year before the contract is signed on the dotted line with doors opening by 2017. “The tender process is a new health hub in Newry is underway and it is currently anticipated that subject to planning and approvals a contract will be awarded by April 2015,” said the spokesperson. “Construction is then expected to take about 24 months including commissioning. This proposal is being taken forward through the use of revenue funded Third Party Development (3PD) procurement route and as such funding would only be payable to the developers when the facility is available for use,” added the spokesperson.
