Jobs saved at recycling plant

Nearly 20 jobs have been saved at a Newry recycling plant after the company was brought out of administration by a rival firm. The 19 staff at Greenstar which is based at the Camlough Road will transfer to Wastebeater’s headquarters in Belfast boosting employment levels from 50 to 69 people. Wastebeater’s Managing Director Kieran Byrne said that the purchase will expand. “This acquisition is an exciting development for our company and good news for Greenstar NI employees and customers who had been facing an uncertain future. Wastebeater will continue to invest in market changing technologies to provide the most cost effective and sustainable waste management and recycling services for all our customers.” Greenstar NI had a turnover in the year to March 2011 of £2.78m before going into administration last month. Peter Allen administrator for Deloitte Belfast said they were pleased to reach the conclusion of the successful sales process which was proof that there are still opportunities for growth despite the downturn.
