Lifetime Achievement Award for Jack Murphy

Congratulations to Jack Murphy on his Lifetime Achievement Award that he recently picked up at the Local Women Magazine Awards 2019.

Jack has been an active and valued member of Newry Chamber of Commerce & Trade for many years, serving as President of Newry Chamber of Trade in 1999. His name is synonymous with quality and craftsmanship in his chosen trade which he has passed onto his family and staff as his name continues to represent outstanding success in his field.

A father-of-four and grandfather-of-seven with over 60 years’ experience in the jewellery trade. Starting as an apprentice with a master craftsman a watch-maker at aged only 14. With time on his side, he moved into jewellery and while still in his teens, built up a strong independent workshop. In 1963, he moved to Downpatrick with his late brother Willie and the business continued to grow from workshop to retail. Jack and his wife Pat then settled and opened in Newry in 1972.

Away from work, his keen interest in sport saw him take on the role of captain of Ardglass Golf Club while he was also a board member of his beloved Dundalk FC for 25 years. He is still a devoted supporter, watching his team play whenever and wherever he can.

However, family is never far from his mind and next year, he will celebrate 50 years’ of marriage to wife Pat, with whom he has four children, Tina, Barry, Rory and Gemma.

Although semi-retired and dividing his time between his County Down home and the sunshine of Spain, he remains a guiding light in the business, instilling his values of hard work, passion and drive into a team of 12 and he is truly a very worthy recipient of this award.
