BT’s investment in broadband infrastructure has been key to connecting Northern Ireland internally and with the rest of the world.
More than 85% of premises in Northern Ireland now have access to high-speed fibre broadband. Networks Northern Ireland continues working to expand coverage even further and recently announced a £20 million investment in a major expansion of ultrafast broadband to towns across the region.
BT is the UK’s third largest investor in R&D, spending some £5 million annually. Their R&D Centre in Belfast employs around 240 people and is a key technology hub for BT Group worldwide, designing and developing many innovations across BT TV, BT Sport, Broadband and Mobile.
BT has further invested in that capability in 2017 by opening a new multi-million pound Innovation Centre in Belfast. The Innovation Centre will play a crucial role in global R&D capability, focusing on advanced research into the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics for customer experience, cyber security and 5G communications.
