Mr Michael McKeown was elected as President of Newry Chamber of Commerce and Trade at its Annual General Meeting on Thursday, 5th November in MJM Business Park, Newry.
The election of the Office Bearers and Executive Committee was presided over by Mr Art Magennis MBE. Stephen Comer, Declan McChesney, Frank O’Connor and Mr Aidan Malone, were elected for the following positions respectively, First Vice President; Second Vice President; Honorary Secretary and Honorary Treasurer.
In his acceptance speech, President Michael McKeown stated, ‘I am greatly honoured by you to be elected your President, I promise to cherish the honour and to fulfil my duties with all my energy’.
President McKeown commended Newry Mourne & Down DC on its recently launched Economic Regeneration and Investment Strategy advocating that Newry Chamber fully endorse and support the Council with this 5 year strategy. He stated, ‘It is the primary focus of my Presidency to inspire all of my colleagues on the new Executive Committee to be and to remain the primary partner of this Council in the achievement of their targets for the area’.
President Michael McKeown added, ‘Newry Chamber will continue to support its members and provide value added services to all. We have an exciting calendar of networking events planned for the next 12 months catered to meet the needs of members providing important business information, advice and networking opportunities. Chamber Officials led by Chief Executive, Orla Jackson, will continue to work in partnership with other organisations to provide members with services and resources which will help their businesses to grow and flourish’.
President Michael McKeown thanked the outgoing President, Deborah Loughran for all the hard work, dedication and commitment she contributed to the Chamber during her time in Office.
