Newry supermarket SuperValu – The Good Food Shop has been announced as one of the finalists for an award to find the Best Supermarket in Northern Ireland for Hygiene and Food Safety. The Hill Street store will vie with other stores across Ireland for the title at the 2014 National Q Mark Awards in Dublin later this month. Announcing the list of finalists Irene Collins the Managing Director of Excellence Ireland Quality Association announced that the team from SuperValu have, “surpassed the National Standards of Hygiene and Food Safety” and she added: “The nomination for Best Supermarket in Northern Ireland for Hygiene and Food Safety in the country recognises that SuperValu – The Good Food Shop is operating at the highest standard of Hygiene and Food Safety in the Country.” Part of the Musgrave Group the store has been operation for nine years and currently employs 106 people. The Good Food Shop is the busiest SuperValu in Northern Ireland and the biggest single employer on Hill Street. The building also incorporates the city’s main post office as well as a dedicated professional fresh food area which earns the store its title. On hearing they had been nominated for this prestigious award Martin Boyle Fresh Food Manager at SuperValu said: “I am honoured and delighted that we have been nominated that we have been nominated for a Q Mark Award. I am very proud fo the work we deliver on a daily basis.” This year’s award ceremony will take place at the Double Tree by Hilton Hotel on September 26 when the team from SuperValu will go head to head with the best Irish businesses of 2014 to compete for what are known as ‘The Oscars of Business Excellence.’
