Two new initiatives to combat crime and antisocial behaviour in Newry have been launched by Mayor Charlie Casey. Retail Crimewatch and Radiolink will be introduced as multi agency initiatives involving Newry City Centre Management, Newry and Mourne Policing and Community Safety Partnership, the PSNI and the Council. Retail Crimewatch is a crime prevention and information sharing initiative aimed at reducing retail crime in partnership with the police. The scheme aims to develop a working partnership between PSNI, local council, PCSP security companies and retailers to gather and exchange data and to build a trend analysis on offenders and travelling offenders and to reduce retail crime across all policing districts. Meanwhile the Radiolink scheme will focus on the Night Time Economy and will retailers and licensed premises with radio communication to other scheme users within the city at Ardmore Newry. Retailers in the city will be introduced to the two schemes at special presentations which will be hosted at the Sean Hollywood Arts Centre on Friday June1. The presentation on Retail Crime Watch and for Radiolink for retailers will take place at 11am with the Radiolink presentation for those involved in the Night Time Economy at 2.30pm.
