Newry Chamber Welcomes Deal on post-Brexit Arrangements

Newry Chamber welcomes the news of a deal on post-Brexit arrangements between the EU and UK Government, entitled the ‘Windsor Framework’.

Julie Gibbons, President of Newry Chamber said:

“While we are taking time to review the details of the agreement and consider what it means for our members, it is positive news.”

“It will greatly reduce the paperwork relating to moving goods into Northern Ireland from the rest of the UK and also retains the benefits under the NI Protocol of trading with the EU single market.”

“We have consistently called for a negotiated settlement in our many engagements with both sides. Businesses were very much stuck in a cycle of uncertainty and many were holding back investment decisions awaiting the outcome of these discussions.”

“It should also provide a significant platform to attract new overseas investment into Northern Ireland, due to the benefits of our unique dual access to the UK and EU markets.”

“As an organisation representing over 300 businesses across Newry City, South Down and South Armagh, we want to see our members trade freely both North/South and East/West and we hope this will be case.”

“We look forward to the speedy restoration of Stormont and locally elected representatives getting back to work. Newry Chamber are committed to working with local Ministers to ensure this region fulfils its potential.”
