Newry and Mourne Enterprise Agency’s chief executive Conor Patterson and chairman Peter McEvoy look back on the 20 years since the major £1m refurbishment at the Work In Newry Business Park. A the time the March 12 1982 issue of the Reporter stated: “What began as a post war jam making factory for Chivers progressed to a potato processing for Reckitt and Colman and lay empty for a period of time has finally emerged as the refurbished WIN-Work in Newry Business Park. Over £1m has been spent on a major refurbishment programme by the Newry and Mourne District Enterprise Agency who were joined in funding the project by the International Fund for Ireland, Newry and Mourne Council and LEDU. The official opening on Monday was performed by Mr David Gibson, undersecretary for the Department for Economic Development.” Since then the Enterprise Agency has helped create thousands of jobs in the Newry area.
