Fews Councillor David Taylor may be the youngest of Newry and Mourne’s 30 elected representatives but the UUP man believes this is something he can use to his advantage during his year as Deputy Mayor. “I will be wholly committed to representing the entire community of Newry and Mourne during my term as Deputy Mayor and will endeavour to engage with as many people as possible in the upcoming year,” he told The Reporter. “It is vitally important as a younger political representative within Newry and Mourne District Council that I take advantage of the position to engage young people in the local political scene and the workings of their Council. I also look forward to promoting a positive image of our area as I travel to various events both locally and wider afield with a view to encouraging investment and tourism within Newry and Mourne.” Mayor Michael Ruane (SF) said he looked forward to working with Deputy Mayor Taylor in the coming months. “We have our differences politically but we are here to represent the District and we will do it together,” he said. “We need to communicate and we do communicate. I don’t care what party someone represents.”
