Norbrook’s 400 jobs boost

Newry based company Norbrook Laboratories is t create 400 new jobs over the  next two years. The major development at the veterinary pharmaceutical hub will add to employment figures approaching 2,000 staff throughout the company. The expansion year on year has already witnessed 230 new jobs being generate at the company since the beginning of the year. The employment drive will include a wealth of disciplines ranging from production, scientific analysis, research, finance and engineering. The new jobs will make the Newry company one of the largest employers in Northern Ireland. Norbrook is controlled by Lord Ballyedmond who was recently highlighted as Northern Ireland’s richest man with an estimated fortune of £860m. Norbrook Laboratories Ltd recruitment manger James Gibbs has highlighted the specifics of the multi-million pound investment into the local economy. “The new jobs will be spread right across the full spectrum of our operation and will range from high-end senior positions through to committed and motivated production operatives all offering extremely competitive and attractive salaries,” said Mr Gibbs. In recent years the company has invested £150m in expanding its facilities in Newry with new production suites, warehousing and office space. Norbrook is a true Northern Ireland success story which has defied the recession by continuing to grow and expand in recent years. A key to our success has been the calibre of our highly educated, well trained and committed staff. We recruit only the best and we are fortunate that within Northern Ireland we have an excellent recruitment pool,” added the recruitment manager. Newry and Armagh MLA Dominic Bradley has welcomed the creation of the 400 additional jobs. “This is excellent news for the people of Newry and Armagh and indeed the people of the north,” said Mr Bradley. “It is great to see that even during difficult economic times, companies like Norbrook are continuing to think creatively to expand and grow. Too many of our young people are unemployed, one in four in fact and are having to leave our shores to find work elsewhere. Thanks to Norbrook many of our graduates will be able to avail of high skilled jobs in science, research, finance and engineering. I hope that more companies across the North can follow in the footsteps of Norbrook,” added the MLA. The Norbrook Recruitment Open Day will run from 8am to 8pm on June 25 in the Europa Hotel Belfast.
