Two new businesses look set to open in Warrenpoint Square in the near future after Newry and Mourne District Council accepted the recommendations of its property agent. The units which were created as part of a more than £200,000 refurbishment of the 1920s toilet block, face the Town Dock. As such it is hoped that their utilisation will breathe new life into the Square and the sea front – an aspiration that will undoubtedly be aided should major projects including the delivery of a 200 berth marina and a refurbishment of the Town Park get secure funding later this year. Securing tenants will also provide a financial benefit to the council which owns the facility. Indeed when the units were advertised it was on a 5 year lease terms of £1,350pa for the first year and £2,000 for years two and three. In a statement the council said: “A the monthly meeting on April 2 it was agreed to accept recommendations from the councils property agents, NI Property, in relation to the allocation of two units at Warrenpoint Square. “Our property agents are currently contacting all parties to advise of this decision and we will be instructing our solicitors to prepare lease agreements with the accepted tenants.”
